As the trial surrounding the rapper's alleged shooting of Megan Thee Stallion gets underway, Tory Lanez and his legal team are exuding teflon confidence.

More than two years after Lanez reportedly shot the Houston hit maker in her feet during a drunken argument outside Kylie Jenner's house in July 2020, jury selection in the high-profile case started earlier this week in Los Angeles.

On Monday (December 5), Tory (actual name Daystar Peterson) was charged with a third crime, discharging a gun carelessly. He already faces charges for assault with a semiautomatic weapon and having a loaded, unlicensed gun in a moving vehicle, all of which he has pled not guilty to.

Tory Lanez has always defended his innocence, claiming that Megan Thee Stallion tried to "frame" him and pose as a scorned ex-girlfriend seeking retribution. Meg has denied that they had a romantic relationship.

The 30-year-old has presented a composed and collected image in public, as evidenced by video of him laughing and smiling in October as his ankle monitor was being installed after he was put under house arrest for allegedly attacking August Alsina.

After being released from home arrest earlier this week in preparation for the trial, Lanez was in equally good spirits while having his ankle monitor taken off. According to Judge David Herriford, this was done to make the rapper "available" and to help with "trial preparation."

However, Megan Thee Stallion hasn't wavered from her accusations since she first claimed Tory was the triggerman during an August 2020 Instagram Live.

The rapper from Traumazine described the shooting, which left her with gunshot pieces in both of her feet, in an emotional interview with CBS Mornings' Gayle King in April. She alleged Tory yelled, "Dance, bitch!" before firing rounds at the ground close to where she was standing from a car window.

"When I step out of the automobile, I realize how quickly everything is happening. All I can hear is this dude yelling, "Dance, bitch!" He then began shooting, she remembered. "Oh, my God, I'm just like that. He fired a few shots, and I was terrified.

"I didn't want to even move. I was careful not to move too quickly. Since I'm thinking, "Oh, my God." I'm not sure if he'll shoot something that's, like, really crucial if I make the wrong move. I'm unsure if he could shoot me and I'd die.

In a June cover story for Rolling Stone, Megan, who has endured a consistent stream of online criticism and even death threats as a result of her accusations, made no bones about her desire to see Tory Lanez pay for his deeds.

"I want him to be locked up. She said, "I feel like you've already tried to break me enough. I want him to go under the jail. Already shot by you. So why are you prolonging it in this way? What else, perhaps? Have you disliked me this much for so long and I haven't noticed?

The trial is scheduled to start on December 12 and is anticipated to last around 10 days. Tory Lanez may spend up to 22 years and 8 months in prison if found guilty.
