Sam Amadi Reveals Peter Obi, Uzodinma Advised Him Against Running for Office Over ‘Political Evil’

Former Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Sam Amadi, has revealed that both Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi advised him against pursuing elective office, citing the harsh realities of Nigeria's political landscape.

Amadi made the disclosure in a Facebook post on Wednesday while reflecting on his political journey, previous ambitions, and the challenges facing Nigeria's electoral process.

Former NERC Chairman Sam Amadi says Peter Obi and Governor Hope Uzodinma warned him against contesting elections, citing violence and unethical practices in Nigeria's political system.

Peter Obi Warned Against Senate Bid

According to Amadi, Peter Obi discouraged him from contesting for a Senate seat, warning that elections in Nigeria are often characterized by violence and unethical practices.

Recalling their conversation, Amadi quoted Obi as saying:

"Sam, do not run. It will be very violent. You are a good man. You cannot do the evil they do. I know how evil they are."

The former NERC chairman said Obi believed his character and principles would make it difficult for him to navigate the country's often turbulent political environment.

Uzodinma Gave Similar Advice in 2014

Amadi also revealed that Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma gave him similar advice over a decade ago when he considered running for governor.

According to him, Uzodinma acknowledged his leadership qualities but suggested that winning elections required engaging in practices Amadi would not be comfortable with.

Recalling the conversation, Amadi wrote:

"Sam, you know you ought to be Governor of Imo State, but you cannot do the things we do."

The statement has sparked fresh discussions on the nature of political competition in Nigeria and the ethical challenges faced by aspirants.

Amadi Declares Governorship Ambition

Despite the warnings from both political figures, Amadi insisted he remains determined to pursue the governorship of Imo State.

He declared that he would not allow fear or the challenges of Nigeria's political system to discourage him from seeking public office.

"But I will run for Governor, evil or no evil."

Calls for Electoral Reform

Amadi's comments have reignited conversations about electoral violence, political ethics, and the need for reforms that encourage credible candidates to participate in Nigeria's democratic process.

Political observers say his remarks highlight growing concerns over the conduct of elections and the barriers facing professionals and technocrats who wish to enter politics without compromising their values.

Neither Peter Obi nor Governor Hope Uzodinma had publicly responded to Amadi's claims as of the time of filing this report.
