Iran Targets US Military Bases as America Launches Fresh Airstrikes Across Iran
Tensions in the Middle East have escalated dramatically as Iran launched fresh attacks targeting U.S. military bases in several Gulf countries, while the United States carried out a new wave of airstrikes on military facilities across Iran.
Iran Launches Attacks on US Military Facilities
Iran said its latest military operation targeted U.S. military installations and strategic assets in several neighboring countries, including Jordan, Kuwait, and Bahrain.
Authorities in Kuwait reported intercepting drone attacks, while Bahrain's Interior Ministry urged residents to remain calm and move to the nearest safe location as a precaution.
Iranian military officials also claimed they struck U.S. communication systems and fuel storage facilities in Jordan, although the extent of the damage has not been independently verified.
US Responds With Six-Hour Wave of Airstrikes
In response, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said American forces carried out a six-hour military operation targeting multiple locations across Iran.
According to CENTCOM, the strikes focused on command centers, air defense systems, coastal surveillance facilities, and military infrastructure in areas including Bandar Abbas and Greater Tunb Island.
The U.S. military said the operation was intended to reduce Iran's capability to threaten international shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important oil transit routes.
Trump Warns Iran to Return to Negotiations
U.S. President Donald Trump warned that Iran must return to negotiations or risk additional military action.
Earlier this week, Trump also threatened to target Iran's energy infrastructure if diplomatic talks failed to resume.
However, Iran's top negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, said Tehran had "no reason" to accept any agreement that did not serve the country's national interests.
He insisted that Iran's security strategy includes maintaining its position around the Strait of Hormuz.
Explosions Reported Across Iran
Iranian state media reported explosions in several cities as air defense systems were activated in Tehran following the U.S. strikes.
Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said a children's cancer treatment center in the western city of Ahvaz was evacuated after nearby strikes.
Meanwhile, verified videos circulating online showed explosions in Bandar Abbas, Chabahar, and Ahvaz, highlighting the intensity of the overnight attacks.
Strait of Hormuz Remains Closed
The crisis has further disrupted global energy markets as the Strait of Hormuz remains effectively closed following earlier military confrontations.
The strategic waterway handles a significant share of the world's crude oil exports, and shipping activity has slowed considerably amid growing security concerns.
The United States recently reinstated a blockade on Iranian ports after suspending it under a previous memorandum of understanding between the two countries.
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) warned that additional oil and gas export routes serving U.S. allies could also face disruption if the conflict continues.
Global oil prices have climbed sharply as investors react to the escalating military confrontation and uncertainty surrounding energy supplies from the Gulf region.
Analysts warn that any prolonged closure of the Strait of Hormuz could significantly impact global oil markets and international trade.
Iran Releases American Detainee
Despite the ongoing conflict, President Trump welcomed Iran's release of an American citizen, Dena Karari, who had been detained since December 2024.
Calling the move a "gesture of goodwill," Trump expressed hope that the release could eventually help revive diplomatic engagement between both countries, even as military operations continue.
